Nadia PAYOT and her facial exercise programme
In 1917, Nadia PAYOT met ballerina Anna Pavlova in New York. It was a revelation. She was struck by the difference between the dancer’s youthful body and the fatigue that could be seen on her face. She understood the importance of combining creams with stimulating facial movements. Three years later in 1920 in Paris, she founded the PAYOT brand based on a bold philosophy: beauty in motion.
In the late 1920s, Nadia Payot created the first facial exercise programme: the « physical culture of the face and neck», a method to be performed daily using a skincare cream at home. The method comprises seven massage movements and four gymnastic movements.
Inspired by the work of Dr Nadia PAYOT, GYM BEAUTÉ PAYOT® was developed in par tnership with Jocelyne Rolland.
Trained as a physiotherapist, she went on to become the head of training at LPG Systems and was responsible for the Lipomassage and Endermolift protocols. She has now created the “Beauty physical therapy” concept and opened the first centre in Paris, where she teaches Pilates. She wrote “Dix minutes par jour pour remodeler votre silhouette” (Albin Michel - Ten minutes a day to reshape your figure).

The 11 movements in Gym Beauté PAYOT®
First, focus on your posture: stand/sit up as tall as possible, feet flat on the floor, breathe out.
1 - Clown to reduce the appearence of wrinkles and fine lines from the lips
Open your mouth wide horizontally, creating and exaggerated rectangle. Stretching the orbicularis oris.
2- Surprised to reduce the appearence of wrinkles, crow's feet and puffiness
Open your eyes wide (without furrowing your forehead!). Stretching the orbicularis oculi.
3 - Sleepy to smooth forehead wrinkles
Lower the eyebrows and eyes, and look far downwards (but don’t bend your neck!). Stretching the forehead muscles.
4 - Cat's paws to smooth and plump up forehead wrinkles
With the hands working simultaneously on each side, slide the pads of the fingers from the centre of the forehead towards the temples. Relaxing the forehead muscles.
5 - Butterflies to smooth frown lines and crow's feet
Firmly, slide the thumb and index finger along the eyebrow, finishing with the thumb to stretch out crow’s feet. Stretching the eyebrow muscles and orbicularis oculi.
6 - Snake to reduce the appearence of jowls
Loosen the teeth and jaws, then place the tip of your tongue behind the upper teeth. Relaxing the masseter muscles.
7 - Owl to tone the eye contour, anti-puffiness, anti-dark circles
Place your fingers on the brow bone and the tops of the cheekbones, keep your eyes fully open, then close
them and open them wide.

8 - Turtle to lift the corners of the lips
Curl your lips inwards and stretch the corners by pushing with the lower jaw to tauten the chin tissue.
Stretching the square chin muscle and triangular lip muscle.
9 - Fish to plump lips and firm the lip contour
Create a vertical oval with the mouth and open as wide as possible while maintaining this shape. Working the orbicularis oris in long position.
10 - Smile: lift the cheekbones
Perform 3 levels of smile by widening the teeth more and more. Working the zygomaticus major and minor, levator labii superioris, and caninus muscles.
11 - Big smile to tone the neck
Say “smiiiiiile” in an exaggerated fashion, lifting the corners of the lips as you exhale, then relax.
